Shining 'R' Ranch and C.R.I.B. Creek Beefmasters
Roy and Iris Ratliff have been involved in the cattle and horse industries for more than four decades. Roy was raised on a farm in southern Missouri, where he grew up working with cattle, pigs, horses, and hunting dogs. Iris spent her childhood in the Armourdale area of Kansas City, Kansas. The couple married in 1971 and spent most of their married life in the western Kansas City, Kansas area before relocating their ranch to Lamar, Missouri, in 2006. They have 2 sons, 2 daughter- in-laws, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and counting.
The Shining ‘R’ Ranch encompasses approximately 1,300 acres spread across Kansas and Missouri. The main ranch headquarters is located in Lamar, Missouri, where all of the Beefmaster cattle and some of the horses are kept. Cattle purchases must be picked up at the Lamar location. Quality heifers, bred heifers, and bulls are available for sale year-round.

The ranch’s horse operation has scaled back significantly over the years. Most of the horses currently in Lamar are used by the grandchildren for riding and are not typically for sale. While the family once maintained over 30 horses and stood two stallions, they now keep only a small number of horses and ponies primarily for family enjoyment.
In the Peculiar, Missouri area, the ranch maintains a herd of registered Myotonic (Fainting) Goats and Border Collies. After initially raising meat goats and finding them labor-intensive, the family transitioned to Myotonic goats, which are exceptionally easy keepers with minimal maintenance needs. Each spring, approximately 35 to 40 kids are typically available for sale, with new arrivals often posted in March and April. Bottle-fed babies are occasionally offered—interested buyers should check the “Goats for Sale” page regularly. All goats are 100% pureblood and fully registered. Purchases must be picked up at the Peculiar location.
The ranch also breeds registered Border Collies, valued as intelligent and highly effective stock dogs. A good working Border Collie can often accomplish the work of two people when handling livestock. Litters are produced selectively to maintain the health of the breeding females, so availability varies. Prospective buyers should contact the ranch directly to inquire about upcoming litters. Puppies must be picked up at the Peculiar, Missouri location.
Across all species, the ranch emphasizes the six essentials of animal selection to continually improve and strengthen their herds and flocks.
